Hi guys, American Dave here with the lowdown on this weeks show, What a great time we had even though Gary had turned up for a change but probably only because I offered to pick him up while the reliant robin had run out of gas. There was plenty going on with texts, last minute entries to the draw, emails, phone calls and so on and so forth. The three from one feature that we have was dedicated to Michael Jackson of course, as the news of the funeral arrangements trickled out we discovered that Smokey Robinson had offered to sing at the funeral the song, Never can say goodbye, very fitting when you think that such a great artist, who had such a good, gentle but very sad life would be very difficult to say goodbye to. So, on to the big draw, the meal for two at the Home Cooking restaurant was won by Glyn Davies of Conwy who had given the correct answer to the question, what was Home Cooking before it's conversion and the answer of course was Andy Shields Leather shop, next came the draw for the Hundred pounds worth of cosmetics donated by the good folks at Debenhams and as the draw was made I could be heard screaming in horror as the name on the card was read out, would you believe it?, the arch polyfilla girl herself, Sue Jones, (funny that no one thought this draw was a fix) to be honest, £100.00 worth won't go very far in Sue's case but very well done to you both anyway. Now here's a story I had heard at the St David's Hospice Summer Ball and it concerns a well known local blonde lady, (at least I think she is a lady), so it goes like this, Back in 1971 through the mists of time, we come upon a group of Paynesites on their way to Paynes after calling in the Empire and possibly the London when our group who included Kevin Walters, Ade Corkish, Graham and of course Haf step off the pavement between the leather shop and the rock shop just then Haf pipes up with "there's a SWANA down there where you all get hot and sweaty", well, Kevin Walters nearly chokes on his sherbert lemon as he gasps, "don't you mean a Sauna Haf?" two minutes later Gary emails in to say Haf's not impressed with the ANTIDOTE, of course I had read it wrong and said antidote instead of anecdote, Grrrrrrrrrrrrr what a comdedy of errors this night's turning out to be, however, it's all good clean fun, Don't forget the new competition, we will have two separate prizes for the same question, six bottles of wine courtesy of Home Cooking and another £100s of cosmetics from the good folks at Debenhams, so the question is: Who was the architect of Llandudno?, answers to me Dave Hanson by email at Dave.hanson@tudnofm.co.uk or text me or ring in on the night 01492870249 or text 60300 the word tudno space and your answers. We'll be having our latest 60 and 70s and Motown night at the Deganwy Castle on the 18Th of July 8 till late tickets £5 at the castle or St Davids hospice on 01492879058, all money raised to go to the hospice.
see you, American Dave

Hi, American Dave here with the lowdown on this week's show, well folks John and I were so excited with the news that someone famous would be arriving on a gleaming Lambretta GP 200 scooter covered with mirrors, push bike headlights and more florida bars, bubble screens, spare wheels, front and back carriers than you could shake a stick at, all covered in chrome and complete with L plates, so you can imagine our disappointment when this rickety old Li 150 with no bars or mirrors and wearing a colour scheme of faded yellow and rampant rust with the seat covered in black tape and half a tiger tail tied to the stump of an aerial came popping and farting into the car park dragging parts of its exhaust pipe which was tangled with the kick-start and followed by the foulest cloud of black smoke, there was a terrific crash as our jaws hit the floor but at least the rider was someone we knew from way back when, yes folks it was none other than Big E who was coming to spend the evening with us, so after insisting on John's parking the 'scoot' as far away from my car as possible and then with John and I chanting "we're not worthy" and holding the bottom of the beaver tail on E's parka like two demented page boys we made our way in to the building. I can honestly say that Staggered doesn't cover the expression on Big E's face as we played one of his earliest demo tapes that's been recorded to CD, spluttering in embarrassment and with threats and recriminations being flung at everyone in general and Phil Williams in particular we tottered into the show and spent the next hour talking Paynes, football, absent friends and the Soul Shack in Deganwy.
So we slip easily into the second hour by playing another of the re-recorded tapes of Big E's auditions needless to say we were all amazed that this stuff still existed considering E's on his bus pass at last, Oh hang on a mo, John's poking me about something, oh yes nearly forgot, the Competition, it's here at last, well nearly anyway, we are going to do the draw for the meal for two at Home Cooking next week so if you know what the building was before it was converted to Home Cooking, get your answers in by next week to be in with a chance.
Haf sent a text in to tell us we have two new listeners, Jimmo and Joan who really enjoy the music and would love a request to be played, it shows that the music never dies apart from when we began to sing Happy birthday for Sue Twig's sister Lorraine and John mercifully faded it out before the town's mirrors started breaking. It also went quiet when Big E actually asked John for his records back but it was all calmed down with a hug and a kiss until one of them mentioned the Brownies and we all spent the next five minutes in separate corners, so finally, it seems if you like Soul, Motown or Northern and you like a good time, then the place to be is Oswestry where people like to dance the night away, that's enough from us now and we thank Big E for actually making it, I'd better let him scoot out of the car park first so the rust bugs don't jump onto my car. I hope he gets home before dawn, see you

Well, what a great night we had tonight, we had a real night of memories featuring all the people we've said goodbye to, a lot earlier than we'd have liked. We started the ball rolling by mentioning a few names and then we were pleased to get calls in thick and fast, people remembering people generally and then we got some more specific calls in, rather than try to name people as mentioned we will just post the names in any old order, this is the list we made but if you can think of others who should be added please feel free to let us know.
and the names are:

29 April 2009
Tonight we have the usual mix of music, memories and verbal badinage provided by 'American Dave' as always and Gary Carr when he can make it, plus we present an unusual spot which we are calling Llandudno's got talent and which will feature a mystery guest singing a favourite song of theirs and which tonight will be Stand by me as made famous by Ben E King and others, it was all going well until American Dave accidentally let the cat out of the bag by referring to our guest by name so if you've not heard the podcast it will be a nice surprise for you as the guest makes a really nice job of it, later Connie regaled us with tales of school (typing practice to Dancing in the street), and early appearances at Paynes, all the girls seemed to have been going since they were eleven while the lads didn't twig until they were a lot older, same old story I suppose. Gary was at it again, telling tales of Dansette players with a wobbly pile of vinyl on top while the pickup arm careered about with ten bob in change on it and threatening to cut through to the other side of the disk at any minute, we lived a lot more dangerously in those heady days folks, and so it went on, records played, memories came roaring back and the calls of congratulation came in along with a lot more memories that people had erm, remembered, it was a classic in its own time, don't forget to enter any competitions we might be running and buy your tickets for the next 60s 70s and Motown night whenever that will be (I bet it'll be in the Deganwy Castle though) and try to join us on TudnoFM 107.8 live or streamed from the listen live button on our website's front page, see you
