In Play

England won the toss and decided to bat

England 1st Innings
336 for 7 (90.0 overs)

Umpires: Aleem Dar, B R Doctrove, J J Crowe, R A Kettleborough

England: Strauss (C), Cook, Bopara, Pietersen, Collingwood, Prior (W), Flintoff, Broad, Swann, Anderson, Panesar

Australia: Katich, Hughes, Ponting (C), M Clarke, M Hussey, North, Haddin (W), M Johnson, Siddle, Hilfenhaus, Hauritz

Day One:

Well the first test of the series, the first ashes test for Australia without Warne, Gilly and McGrath, the first ashes test match to be played outside England or Australia, the first test match to be played in Wales. First blood to...England and Australia.

First Session:

Australia edge it with the three wickets for ninety-eight runs, Johnson looked impressive in second spell.

Second Session:

England dominate the session thanks to Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood. Over a hundred partnership (138), and the Aussies fail to take a wicket.

Final Session:

Australia make the vital breakthrough, and claim four wickets in the session. England fought back with a stunning Prior fifty, although the seven wickets makes this mouth-watering in anticipation for future events. Good days cricket.

If you were tuned to Tudno Sport last Saturday, you'll have heard Llandudno FC holding Welsh Cup champions Bangor City to a 1-1 draw at Maesddu Park. In a performance that never seemed out of depth, Lee Thomas took Tudno into the lead some five minutes into the second half. Michael Johnston responded for the Citizens a quarter of an hour - but it was really one of the few high points from a squad of apparently considerable strength - and one which will enter European competition in just over a week when they play FC Honka in the Europa League.

This afternoon, Llandudno announced that they've arranged a tie with another Welsh Premier side, Elements Cefn Druids for Saturday 11th July (kick off at 2:30pm). We hope to bring you updates from the game live on this week's Tudno Sport (on the air from 3-6pm) as well as an interview with Bangor manager Nev Powell ahead of that Europa League qualifier.

By Gareth Joy

After seven years in the Cymru Alliance, he's returned to Welsh Premier football by signing up to GAP Connah's Quay. Once an upcoming youngster at Bangor City (and before that, Conwy United) and with two goals from a cluster of appearances, Boulton switched to second tier football in 2002 by joining Mynydd Isa (some of you may recall they went into liquidation at the end of last season).

While at Tudno, he was given the chance to return to the top flight by Cefn Druids during the last transfer window in January. He chose to stay on at Maesddu Park that time but the call from new Nomads manager Jim Hackett to become their ninth entrant of the close season probably sounded more of an opportunity for him.

And so, so long to Boulton as he joins former Isa men Tom Price & Barry Calder as the Deeside debutants. Re-signing to the Nomads are midfielders Sam McNutt (Holker Old Boys), Alan Hooley (Flint Town United) & Craig Jones, defending brothers Ben & Andy Alston and striker Chris Herbert (Flint).

Meanwhile, when the Druids roll up on Saturday, they'll bring with them their only summer signing to date - and a slightly familiar one at that. Striker Gary Pennlington helped Bala Town to the championship and the top flight last season as their top scorer - 21 goals in all. The Ancients are hailing him as the ideal replacement for one-time Wrexham youth Mark Stewart after he signed on to Welshpool Town.

The draws have been made for the opening rounds of the Unibond League's Challenge Cup and Presidents Cup. In the opening Presidents round, Colwyn Bay are drawn away to manager Neil Young's former club, Cammell Laird (tie to be played on the 8th or 9th September) while a trip to Prescot Cables follows in the Challenge Cup on 22nd/23rd September.

The FA Cup preliminaries on 29th August have the Seagulls playing either Parkgate for the second time in three seasons or St Helens of the North West Counties Division. The winners could go forward to meet Cammell Laird in the first qualifier on 12th September, unless they're beaten by Mossley.

In the FA Trophy, former Colwyn boss Gary Finley returns to Llanelian Road on 3rd October with Witton Albion in the preliminaries. The first round tie a fortnight later will see either side host Sutton Coldfield.

Returning to the present, Colwyn welcome Rhyl for a pre-season friendly this Friday night (kick off: 7:30pm). Blue Square Premier opposition follows with Wrexham on the 15th and Altrincham on the 18th.

Tuesday last saw the first match in the second half of the Worthington’s Llandudno and district darts league summer programme, and as we see, the title race is now really tight at the top ,only three points separating the leaders at the top with the exception of the young Alexandra team of the Division Four who still hold on to a four points lead after their top of the table clash at the newcomers Estuary Glan Conwy, this young Alex team really making a name for themselves this summer season and on this night they came away with a hard fought 4-3 win.

In the Samson service Sponsored division two, Dave Nolan and his RAOB club b team continue their good form with a 4-3 win over the links Hotel, but as the score shows they had to pull out good darts to clinch these points, leaving it to Geoff wedge to just beat Ian Eardy in a nail biting game after going to one leg each in this deciding game but Geoff hit the double finish first to keep the RAOB club sharing top place with the Pen y Bryn B, both these teams now have opened up a four points gap and on this form they really are going to be hard to catch, but praise also for Maz Yates and her Penrhyn Arms c team, newly promoted this season had a shaky start but putting some good darts to gether now and a rewarding 5-2 win at the Maelgwyn moves them off the bottom of this table.

The Pen y Bryn Sponsored Division three sees yet another Penrhyn arms team having a good season, Dave Commander and his B team holding on to this to place with a three points lead after another good performance against the station Hotel with a 5-2 score line, and making a welcome return and still in good form that all round sports man Deniol Graham winning his game two legs to nil. Danny Brenan and his Crossville club also keeping in touch with the leaders after their 4-3 hard fought win at the Mountain View A who just cannot hit their finishes I hear.

Up with the big boys in the Emlyn H Roberts sponsored Division one, no change at the top the leaders pen arms A still in over drive and no stopping them as they pile on the points. They took the first five games on the run to beat the Malt loaf Conwy with only Chris Jones and Gareth Jones hitting a 13 dart check out and both winning to put the score line at 5-2, while over at the Community Club, they to in awesome form again and crushed the Bron Eryri seven Games to nil which is the biggest defeat the Br on have had for many seasons also saw Steve Williams hit his second maximum 180 for the second week running, and after a good start, the Cricket club dropping some valuable points again , last week it was Martin Beresford and his Kings arms team who took the three points in this hard 4-3 score line and fitting that it was Left to Martin to win his game and the match.

Tuesday this week sees the long awaited 2009 Summer League individual Championships kindly sponsored by the League president Councillor Mr Billy Evans for the six year which we sincerely appreciate, always a busy and great night of darts at its best, and a great venue at the British Legion club, a full report on this next week.

As we enter a new month, all teams will this week be delivered with their team and player’s 2009/10 winter league application forms. Keep them safe and they must be returned by the league’s annual general meeting at the RAOB club on Tuesday August 18th.

Also a bulletin regarding notices of motions for this AGM are also included.

The Summer league Presentation night will this year be held at the RAOB club on Friday September 4th and following our committee meeting on Sunday last, the committee have decided on a Blind pairs draw competition to be held at the Labour club Llan Junction on Tuesday September 1st, cash prizes etc, further details about this at a later date.

We again remind all our members that the proceeds of the charity pairs completion will be given out to any local deserving cause on our summer presentation night, so any one out there who would like to be considered for a donation to put this in writing and send to me the league secretary ASAP.

• Finally this week, our web site is now up dated showing all teams and players information etc, also now included are welsh dragon Darts company, BBC Wales Sport and the new all Wales Sports Magazine and not forgetting the great supports from The Weekly News, we have also formed an association with the local Tudno FM Saturday afternoon sports show which gives our darts league full coverage of news etc, for those who wish to Listen it is on FM 107.8 or live on www.tudnofm.co.uk/listenlive
